Mary Evelyn (Mottesheard) Veselik of Damascus, formerly of Marion, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Mrs. Veselik was a 1935 graduate of Radford High School and she earned her bachelor's degree from Radford College in 1939. She taught school in Rural Hall, NC and later at Radford High School, Sugar Grove School, and Marion Senior High School. She retired in 1976.
She was a long-time member of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church and sang for many years in the church's choir.
Mrs. Veselik is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert G. Veselik of Damascus; a daughter, Susan V. Catron and husband Lee of the Riverside Community of Chilhowie, VA, two sons, William A. Veselik and wife Cheryl of Marion, and David B. Veselik of Damascus; a sister, Elizabeth M. Simpkins of Richmond; four grandchildren, Amanda C. Orlowski and husband Josh of Johnson City, TN, Samuel R. Catron of Blacksburg, Andrew B. Catron of Kingsport, TN, and Ethan M. Veselik of Marion; a nephew, Jerry A. Simpkins of Richmond; and a niece, Carol V. Shepard of Silver Spring, MD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest C. and Emma Jane (Allen) Mottesheard; a son, James Robert Veselik; two brothers, Ernest C. Mottesheard, Jr. and Walter Bonham Mottesheard; and two sisters, Ernestine Mottesheard and Anna Ruth Mottesheard.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 5 p.m. at Royal Oak Presbyterian Church in Marion with a reception to follow the service, the Rev. Dr. Angus R. Shaw and Dr. Alan Gray will officiate. A Private graveside service will be conducted in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion,Virginia before the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Wytheville Community College Educational Endowment, Inc. and earmarked for the Robert G. and Evelyn M. Veselik Scholarship Endowment. Contributions may be mailed to the WCC Educational Foundation at 1000 East Main Street, Wytheville, VA 24382.
