Abingdon, VA- Fern Mullins Fields, age 91, of Abingdon, VA and formerly of Breaks, VA passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 following an extended illness. She was born to the late George Mullins and Clema Owens Mullins on June 2, 1923. She was a long time member of the Macedonia Church of Christ in Abingdon, VA. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dorsey H. Fields; sister, Glema Auville; and brother, Carvil Mullins, who was killed during WWII. Survivors include her sister, Gazel Owens of Breaks, VA; three nieces: Jean O’Quinn and husband Darrell of Bee, VA; Katie Wysor and husband Charlie of Breaks, VA; and Rita Edwards and husband Richard of Birchleaf, VA; several additional nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ivory Ratliff of Abingdon, VA. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Saturday with Minister Greg Dill and Minister Ron Musick officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens where church family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Steve Counts, Richard Edwards, Darrell O’Quinn, Kenny Perkins, and Charlie Wysor will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Macedonia Church of Christ, 25350 Watauga Road, Abingdon, VA 24211.
