Arvella Riffe, a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, age 82, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at her home. Born in Wyoming County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Dorsey and Pearl Lester. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Arlington Riffe, Jr.
Survivors include her two sons, Arlie Riffe and wife Kimberly Ann, of Abingdon; Anthony Riffe and wife Cynthia, of Bristol, TN; two brothers, Ronald Paris Lester of Washington Court House, OH and Lewis Thomas Lester of Chesapeake, VA; three grandchildren, Danielle Riffe of Bristol, TN, Preston Riffe and wife Brooke of Grundy, VA, and Courtney Riffe of Blacksburg, VA.
She was a member of Suburban Christian Church, and a lifelong homemaker. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and thoroughly enjoyed her daily visits to the Coomes Center in Abingdon where she participated in water aerobics. She cherished preparing Sunday lunch and spending time with her family.
Visitation will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 1 to 4 p.m., with the funeral service to follow the visitation at 4:00 p.m. Minister Rich Pannell, of Suburban Christian Church, will be officiating. Pallbearers will be selected family and friends. Interment will follow on Monday, March 10th, at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Bluefield, VA, at 2 p.m. Those wishing to attend the committal are asked to convene at the cemetery by 2:00 p.m.
