Frances Pearl Carnell, 72, passed away Friday, September 25, 2009, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was daughter of the late Preston Hill Parr and Viola Pittsenbarger Parr. She was a member of Higher Ground Fellowship Church of God and loved going to church; she was known at church as "Bahama Mama" and was a prayer warrior. She liked to shop and enjoyed family gatherings. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and mother-in-law.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Carnell. Her survivors include her sons: Johnny Wayne Carnell and wife Louetta of Meadowview; Randy L. Carnell and wife Debbie of Florence, SC; and Daniel R. Carnell and wife Libby of Abingdon; one brother, James Junior Parr and wife Eleanor of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Gloria Jean Sweet and husband Jimmy of Greenbriar Co., WV; five grandchildren: Justin Carnell, Jason Carnell, Johnny Wayne Carnell II, Johnetta Farmer and Ashleigh Carnell; and one great-grandchild. Raliegh Farmer.

The funeral service for Frances Carnell will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at Higher Ground Fellowship Church of God in Bristol, VA. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the church from noon until the time of service. Entombment will follow at Knollkreg Mausoleum. Active pallbearers will be Michael Sneed, James Jarvis, Justin Carnell, Kenny Hughes, Johnny Wayne Carnell II, Aril Hayden, and Robert Brown. Honorary pallbearer will be Jason Carnell.

The family would like to say a special "thank-you" to the following: Dr. Odum; Dr. Brockmry; Cassi Stacy; Anita M. Ford; Kay the volunteer; Sapling Grove Medical Office staff; 2 West employees of BRMC; the MICU staff at BRMC, and many others who touched Mrs. Carnell's life.
