Dr. Frank C. Preston died on March 2, 2011 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee. Born in Monmouth, IL, Frank spent his life in service to God, and as such, a life of service to others. A Presbyterian minister, he served the faithful across the country from 1958 until 2008. Fittingly, the last congregation he served was his home town church, the Green Spring Presbyterian Church, Abingdon, VA. He was a graduate of King College, Union Theological Seminary, and he completed his doctoral work at McCormick Seminary, Chicago. Frank's ministry was characterized by his gift of providing remarkably loving pastoral care, grounded in his faith in God's Grace.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Korean War.
The center of Frank's life was Eleanor, his wife of 58 years. They shared a passion for travel and their journeys spanned continents. Frank's propensity for tinkering, harvesting vegetables and nurturing friendships consumed his free time. He was an accomplished artist in both jewelry and stained glass.
Frank is survived by his wife Eleanor, his children Melissa, Mary and Jeff, his three grandchildren, Andrew, Ash and Zachary, his sister Mildred St. Leger, and his many friends.
The memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, March 8th at 11:00 at Green Spring Presbyterian Church, Abingdon, VA with Rev. Jon Martin and Rev. Gordon Turnbull officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 am until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Union Presbyterian Seminary, 3401 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23227.
