Frank Ross Foster

Frank Ross Foster, age 76, of Abingdon, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.  He was born May 23, 1941, to the late John Foster and Iretta Ross Foster.  Frank was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a truck driver for Purity Bakery in Bristol and retired as a foreman from United Telephone Company.  Frank also retired from SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals and owned and operated Frank’s Place on A Street for 25 years.  He was a deacon of Valley Street Baptist Church and served as scout leader for many years.            

In addition to his parents, Frank was also preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Foster and John Foster; and a sister, Sarah Jones.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nellie Jones Foster; son, F. Sterling Foster of Abingdon, Va.; daughter, Tina Foster-Jones of Abingdon, Va.; goddaughter, Leslie Webb of Lexington, Ky.; three brothers: Douglas Foster and wife, Ruby, of Yuba City, Calif.; Charles Foster of Abingdon, Va.; and Joe Foster of Abingdon, Va.; two sisters, Doris Wellington of Abingdon, Va. and Nancy Johnson of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kyndall, Jyllian, and Marshall; and a special friend who was like a sister, Barbara Holloway of Bristol, Tenn. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor William Austin and Assistant Pastor Dwayne Knight officiating.  Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard.  Pallbearers will be Albert Arnold, Austin Crosswhite, Benny Dunston, Sterling Ellison, John Knight, Matthew Knight, Marty Lucas, and Jason Perry.  The men of Valley Street Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
