Meadowview, Va.

Franklin R. Barrett., 84, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Frank was a native of Washington County, Va. and farmed most of his life. He was a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Frank was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a caring and loving husband, father, and friend. He loved the Lord and admired God’s handiwork all around him. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and making Christmas ornaments. He loved being “Grandaddy” to his grandchildren.

Frank was predeceased by his parents Joseph D. and Kathleen Shortt Barrett; brothers Joe, Garland, and Roy Barrett; and sisters Ida Mullins and Christine Humphrey. He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years Faye Rush Barrett; son David Franklin Barrett and wife Meleasa of Mountain City, Tenn.; daughter Ronda Faye Barrett of Meadowview; sisters Opal Ball and Regina Cumbow; grandchildren DeAnna, Jonathan, and Lydia Barrett; and chosen son Darrell Watson, his wife Kathy, and their children Shane Watson and wife Brandy and son Isaac, Mandy Watson and Jordan Watson.

The family of Franklin R. Barrett will receive friends at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Greenfield Baptist Church, 30080 Hawthorne Drive, Meadowview, Virginia, with Rev. Dan Birchfield officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery where nephews and friends will serve as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be Deacons and members of Greenfield Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the PKD Foundation, https://pkdcure.org.
