Abingdon, VA – Franklin D. Stallard, age 89, passed on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, two days after his 89th birthday. Mr. Stallard grew up in Norton, VA and served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force as a paratrooper during the Korean War. He and his late wife, Shirley Boyd Stallard, owned and operated Bristol Castings together for over 40 years. He enjoyed mountain biking, well before it was a popular sport, and would commonly ride 80 miles over a weekend.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stallard was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Stewart Stallard, and sister, Ann Willis.
He is survived by his two children, Tammi Hayter and husband Ricky of Roanoke, VA, and Chad Stallard and wife Caron of Fairfax, VA; sister, Patricia Stallard of Norton, VA; brother, Hubert Stallard and wife Gloria of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren, Morgan Parris and husband Jake, Miles Hayter, Rylee Stallard, and Addyson Stallard; great grandson, Declan Parris; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023, in the Main Street location of Farris Funeral Service.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living, especially Roxanne, Jeremy, and Candice, for the wonderful care they provided for Mr. Stallard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, in Mr. Stallard’s name.
