Fredrick Charles Thompson, age 84 and lifelong resident of Bristol, VA, passed on Monday, September 2, 2013, at his home. Fred served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Fellowship Chapel and worked many years at Malcolm's Meat Service in Bristol, VA.



Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents, William Joshua Thompson and Laura Cross Thompson; three brothers, Henry, John, and James Thompson; and two sisters, Jessie Odell and Mabel Booher.



He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Novella Kiser Thompson; two sons, Mark Keith Thompson and wife Debra Jones Thompson of Bristol, VA, and Fredrick Dean Thompson and wife Connie Clark Thompson, of Bristol, TN; four brothers, Oscar Thompson of Douglasville, GA; Dallas Thompson of Bristol, VA; Clayton Thompson and wife Myrtle of Bristol, VA; and Conley Thompson of Bristol, VA; and several nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Fellowship Chapel, 201 Crockett Street, Bristol, VA, with Pastor Scott Price and Pastor Danny Thompson officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. just prior to the service Tuesday evening at the church.



A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. View Cemetery Mausoleum in Bristol, VA with David Thompson, Jerry Odell, Jimmy Thompson, John Thompson, Richard Thompson, Clayton Thompson, Jr., Wayne Thompson, and Jimmy Hall serving as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by Virginia National Guard and Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:00 a.m.



The family would like to extend special thanks to Bonnie, Shirley, and Barbara at Caris Health Care for the care given to Mr. Thompson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011, in Mr. Thompson's name.
