Abingdon, VA Gary Allen Hilton, age 73, passed on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Gary lived most of his life in Coeburn, VA before moving to Abingdon in 1989. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Gary owned and operated the Swift Thrift on Highway 58 for over 20 years and was a member of the Highlands Fellowship Country Venue.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Jackson Hilton, Sr. and Emma Long Hilton; brother, Jack Hilton, Jr.; and three sisters, Johnny Ramey, Marcella Sommerville, and Glenda Powers.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anne McConnell Hilton; two daughters, Amy Dorsey and husband Chris of Sedalia, CO and Beth Hilton Hubbard of Abingdon, VA; brother, Joseph Hilton and wife Flo of Coeburn, VA; four grandchildren, Anna Hubbard, Will Hubbard, Luke Dorsey, and Nathan Dorsey; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016, in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Thomas officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia Army National Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Hiltons name.
