Gary Lee Rose

July 7, 1950 — November 10, 2017

Abingdon, VA – Gary Lee Rose, age 67, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at his home. Gary was a native of Grundy, Va., but had lived in Abingdon for the past several years. He had served as the Chairman of the Buchanan County Republican Party and served on the County Board of Supervisors for 12 years. Gary was a member of Abingdon Masonic Lodge No. 48 A.F. & A.M. and, was a member of the Jericho Temple Shriners. He was active in public service as a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Cumberland Plateau and Breaks Interstate Park Commission. Gary worked in retail and automotive sales most of his life.

Gary was predeceased by his parents George Dewey and Edna Mooney Rose and a sister Alladeen Barbour. He is survived by his wife Deborah Lynn Allen Rose; sons Gary Lee Rose, Jr. and wife Rebecca, and Richard Dewey Rose and wife Kimberly both of Summerville, SC; sisters Wilma Bartley of Abingdon, Peggy Smith and husband Mike of Columbia, TN, and Sharon Roberts and husband Bill of Dover, DE; grandchildren Tierney Rose and her mother Lisa, Cody Rose, Nicole Campbell and husband Richard, and Jacob Rose; great grandchild Kinley Rose; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Mike Rife officiating. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Abingdon Lodge No. 48 A.F. & A.M. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, where Travis Fletcher, Cody Rose, Jacob Rose, Logan Matney, Richard Campbell, Bill Roberts, Billy Roberts, Ben Pyle, and Jerry Bartley will serve as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be Robert “Bull” Bevins, Charles Farmer, Larry Engardio, Ricky Bartley, Mike Smith, Mack Ratliff, Bobby May, Pete Marcus, Billy Allen and Jimmy Florio. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Donate Life, www.donatelife.net, Kidney Donation Fund, in Mr. Rose’s name. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so by visiting www.farrisfuneralservice.com and signing the online guest register.
