Gary Arthur May

Gary Arthur May passed away on May 18, 2024, at Rehab Center and Memory Care at Bristol. He was born on July 23, 1943, in Johnson City, TN to Luther May and Irene Martin May. Gary was an Army veteran. After his time in the military, Gary went to work at Eastman Chemical Company. He attended night school at ETSU and received a Chemical Engineering degree and started his career as a Chemist. After retiring from Eastman, he went to work at King Pharmaceuticals and ended his career at Crown Laboratories in Johnson City, TN.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Randy May and Gerald May.

Gary is survived by his wife Barbara Fleenor May; his sister Sharon May Wilmoth and husband Bill; two brothers Bill May and wife Gladys, and Richard May and wife Sandra; sister-in-law Lois May; several nieces and nephews; his special niece Lindsay May; godchild Tracy Shumack and husband Brian, and her family who Gary considered his own, her daughters Meagan Shumack Markham, Brooke Shumack, Brylee Shumack, and special grandson Beckett. Also, longtime family friends Doug and Doris Buchanan and their daughter Leslie Heckford and husband Jerry whom Gary loved and considered family. 

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Andrew McCormick with Holston Medical Group; the staff at Rehab and Memory Care at Bristol and Jennifer with Amedisys.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Barry Taylor officiating.
