Gary Wayne Owens, Sr.

Marion, Va. Gary Wayne Owens, Sr., 62, passed on Monday, October 10, 2016, at his home. Gary was born and raised in Grundy, Va., son of the late Wayne and Shirley Ramey Owens. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and served as a Captain in the United States Army for 10 years. Gary later moved to Marion, Va. and worked as an Audiologist for Smyth County Community Hospital for 26 years.

He is survived by his son Gary Wayne Owens, Jr. and special friend Allison Hodge; daughter Leslie Owens of Christiansburg, Va.; sister Sue Torbett of Abingdon, Va.; brother Larry Owens and wife Patti of York, Pa.; four nephews, and three nieces.

Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2015, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating. Entombment will follow in Colonial Chapel Mausoleum where Gary Wayne Owens, Jr., Hunter Torbett, Brandon Reese, Eddie Prater, Larry Owens, and Bob ODonnell will serve as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard.
