Genevieve Raders Herrell, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, September 03, 2013, at Asbury Place at Baysmont in Kingsport. She was born to the late Edwin Raders and Margaret Gaffney Raders on September 22, 1916 in Lena, IL. She was a civilian nurse for the United States Army. She worked at the White House from 1952-1977 assisting in the care of Presidents Truman through Ford and their staffs. Her assignments included trips to Geneva with President Eisenhower and Moscow with President Nixon. She resided in Clearwater, FL from 1978-2002 before relocating to Northeast Tennessee. She was of the Catholic Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Calvin B. Herrell; brother, Francis Raders; and nephew, Terry Raders.
She is survived by her son, Gregory R. Herrell and wife Cynthia of Abingdon, VA; sister-in-law, Betty Raders of Lena, IL; three nieces, Sharon Schlachter, Tana Herman both of Lena, IL, and Jill Lance of Anaheim Hills, CA; nephew, Mark Raders of Belleville, WI; two step-grandchildren, Michelle Phelps of Piney Flatts, TN and Matthew Harris of Reidsville, NC; and dear friend, Carl Smith of Kingsport, TN.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home with Reverend Wil Cantrell officiating. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2013 at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, FL 33759.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Mrs. Herrell's caretakers, and a special thanks to the loving care given by Catherine, Michelle, Helen, Anna, and Imogene.
