George H. "Joe" Humphreys, Jr., 73, went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 5, 2011 at his home.
He was born June 21, 1938 in Washington County, VA and was a son of the late George H. Humphreys, Sr. and Annie Glass Humphreys. He served his country in the U.S. Army and had retired from Norfolk Southern after 38 years of service. He was a member of Highlands Fellowship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Glenn, Delmar, Paul and Leonard Humphreys and 1 sister, Jean Yuhasz.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Burnopp Humphreys; his sons, Mark H. Humphreys and wife, Jill and Greg S. Humphreys and wife, Amanda; his grandchildren, Hailey, Jackson and Josianna; 1 brother, Ernest Humphreys; 3 sisters, Lavinia Cullip, Phyllis Price and Bertha Parsons; several nieces and nephews; and several other special family members and friends too numerous to mention.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Bill Edmonds officiating. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday beginning at 5:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
Private committal services will be conducted Wednesday at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be John Humphreys, Phillip Humphreys, Rick Humphreys, C.W. Price, David White and Steve Parsons. Honorary pallbearers are Rob Cullip, Freddie Bowers, Charlie Street, George Yuhasz, Mike Humphreys, and Ranny Humphreys.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Highlands Fellowship in Abingdon.
