George Lewis Moore, Jr., 74, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 in Valley Health Care in Chilhowie, VA.
He was born October 30, 1936 in Washington County, Virginia and was the son of the late George Lewis and Margaret Moore and preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Lee Moore and Billy Sanders Moore. He worked at the Abingdon Piggly Wiggly as produce manager for 40 years and had worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart for 11 years. He loved working outside, especially in his flowers. He was a member of Blackwell's Chapel Church.
He is survived by his sisters, Evelyn Lucille Douglass and husband, William C., Ruth Lavonne Clayton and husband, William E. and Velma Carlene Ball and her husband, Earl, who is a very special brother-in-law, all of Fayetteville, NC; a special nephew, Freddie Arnold that was like a son to him; niece, Jessica Witt; nephews, Jeff, Jerry, Joey, Mike and Steven Douglass, and Billy Moore; special cousin, Lila Hutton and other cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Scott Spence, Rev. Wayne Lambert and Rev. Larry Lusk officiating. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday.
Committal services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Blackwell's Chapel Church Cemetery. The procession from Farris Funeral Service will leave at 1:00 P.M.
Pallbearers will be Glenn "Ottie" Thomas, Donnie Powell, Marcus King, Freddie Arnold, Jeff Douglass, Mike Hoback, Bobby Cuddy, Bill S. Moore and Howard Dye. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill DeBord, Joey Douglass, Jerry Douglass, Mike Douglass, Steven Douglass, Dr. Mark Handy and staff, Bobby Crabtree, and Freddie Crabtree.
