George Rogers "Roger" Hagy, 71, a well-known resident of Washington County, VA, departed this life into Jesus' arms Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Johnston Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born August 30, 1942, Roger was preceded in death by his parents, David M. Hagy and Georgia Holbrook Hagy; and by his brother, David Wayne Hagy.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eva Jane Woodward Hagy; his son, Mark Rogers Hagy of Abingdon; his daughter, Amy Baumgardner and husband Steve; and his beloved grandchildren, Lauren Deneise and Stephen Lane all of Bristol, TN. He is also survived by one brother, Gary L. Hagy and wife Beth; a special niece, Emily of Williamsburg, VA; along with several nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Hassie Woodward Webb.
Roger was a member of the last graduating class of Bethel High School. He first worked at Rex Shopping Center; later he worked for the Washington County Service Authority. In addition, he and Eva Jane owned and operated Woodward's Rest Home in Abingdon for a number of years.
Roger was a committed Christian and a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Meadowview, VA until his health declined. He served as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director, and as a Deacon.
Visitation will be from 5:00p.m.-7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 14221 Ravenswood Drive, Meadowview, VA 24361. A funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church where Pastor Chad Johnson and the Reverend James Bennington will officiate. A committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 27th at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Bill Anderson, Alan Dillon, Tommy Hagy, Clayel Kirk, Steve Parsons, Ray Smith, Bill Sproles, Gary Todd, Randy Doss and Cecil Yarber will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends will gather at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service by 9:30 a.m. Friday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ernest Henry for his loving care of Roger. The family also thanks the staff of FMC of Abingdon Dialysis, the staff of Home Nursing Service of Southwest Virginia, and the Third Floor Doctors and Staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
