Abingdon, VA - George Stuart Horn, age 83 of Abingdon, VA and formerly of Bradshaw, WV, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at his home. Mr. Horn was born, raised, and resided in West Virginia most of his life before moving to Abingdon in 1987 after retiring as coal miner after 35 years of employment. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the 58th Float Bridge Company during the Korean War. George was a member of the American Legion and the Lions Club. He was a very active member of Mountain View United Methodist Church and spent much of his time hunting, fishing, traveling, attending veteran reunions, and was active in the Hot Air Balloon community. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elisha Horn and Rosa Keen Horn; brothers, Henry, Edward, and Howard Horn; and sisters, Ida Mae Bryant, Cora Belle Horn, Grace Cobb, Jean Frye, and Frances Bandy. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Rife Horne; daughters, Bonnie Clevinger of Abingdon, VA, and Candy Knepper of Concord, NC; sisters, Mary Jeffreys and Jane Riffe, both of Abingdon, VA; granddaughters, Sarah Clevinger, Erin Adkins, Hannah Adkins, and Emily Adkins. Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, August 20 at Mt. View Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Thayer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Bonnie Clevinger, Candy Knepper, Sarah Clevinger, Erin Adkins, Hannah Adkins and Emily Adkins serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Jim Beavers, Bobby Steele, Carl Weaker, Albert Blevins, Willie Davis, Tom Gilmer, Brian Liley, Wayne Fortney, and Jerry Catron. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. The family would like to extend special thanks to Rev.
