Rev. George W. Thomas, Jr. ("Poppy Thomas") went to be with the Lord and join his loving wife on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Johnston Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. A native of Washington County, Virginia, he was the son of George Thomas Sr. and Mary Younce Thomas. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy where he served as a pastor and evangelist for several years. He led many lives to the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Thomas, several brothers and several sisters. He is survived by one son, George S. Thomas of Meadowview; his daughters: Mildred Henley (James) of Abingdon and Becki Rutter (Sam) of Shady Valley, TN; his sisters Mary Lou Peake and Ruby Hayden, both of Abingdon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family offers a heart-felt thanks to his special caregivers Lisa Henley and Sherry Smith; his special buddy Ron Henley; and his exercise buddy Nikki Henley.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7 pm at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. L.W. Carter, Rev. Garnet Rogers, and Rev. Bill Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 â?? 6:45 on Friday. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11 am at the Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring with military honors by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and family are invited to meet at the funeral home for a procession to the cemetery at 10:30 a.m..
Pallbearers will be Bill Chapman, Adam Blackwell, Jeremy Phillippi, Jamie Phillippi, Kyle Coe, and Greg White.
