Gladys Bell Eades White

July 29, 1931 — April 2, 2019

Gladys Bell Eades White, 87, of Abingdon, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Born on July 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Mack Edward and Mary L. Eades of Bristol, Tenn.

Gladys was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, attended Shiloh Baptist Church, and retired from Gordon Garments after 35 years of service.

She was an amazing homemaker, expert gardener, creative artist and fantastic cook. She loved all things “rustic”, kept a meticulous home, a beautiful garden, and enjoyed sitting on her back-porch swing watching the river flow.

She and her husband, J.D., enjoyed camping, traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway and gardening. She was mightily independent and loved her family dearly. Her strong spirit, quick wit, humor and charm live on through children, grand and great. She will be greatly missed.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. White and several siblings.

Gladys is survived by one daughter, Shirley Gregory of Bristol, Va., and one son, Johnny White (Nancy) of Meadowview, Va.. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Denise Bunn of Blountville, Tenn., Cheryl White-McLeod (Wey) of Abingdon, Jason Brewer of Richmond, Va. and Steven White (Nikki) of Rota, Spain; and five great-grandchildren, Shea Bunn, Madelyne White, Julia White, Noah White and Andelyne McLeod. She is also survived by several siblings.

Her family will honor her wish of a private graveside service in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon, Va. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to a non-profit of your choice. Her family wishes to thank the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living of Abingdon for the thoughtful care they provided her over the past couple of months.
