Gladys Ernestine Ward, 79, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Valley Health Care in Chilhowie, VA.
She was born January 17, 1931 in Washington County, VA a daughter of the late Charlie William and Florida Fay Rickman Woodward. In addition to living in Washington County, Mrs. Ward lived in Watauga County, NC for forty years. She was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Earl Ward and one brother, Charles Kenneth Woodward.
Survivors are her sisters, Wanda Taylor of Saltville, VA; Linda Ellen Call of Abingdon and Mary Elizabeth Marker of Knoxville, MD; a brother, Walter T. Woodward of California City, CA; several nieces and nephews and a special great niece, Caitlin Montgomery.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the First Floor Nursing Staff at Valley Health Care.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ward will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 13, 2011 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 7:45 P.M. Thursday.
Committal services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 14, 2011 at Fall Hill Cemetery on North Fork River Road in Saltville. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roger Call, C.W. Chapman, Sara Poston, Stacy Taylor, Junior Taylor and Richard Taylor.
