Gladys Rice Minga, 96, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 in Bristol.
She was born April 23, 1914 and was the daughter of the late Hugh Paschal and Lilly White Rice. She attended City Business College and had worked for the National Directory Service before marrying. After her marriage to Perry Minga, she and her husband became the owners and operators of Shady Acres Farm on Old Jonesboro Road where they raised beef cattle, sheep and operated a dairy farm. Upon Mr. Minga's death, the farm was sold to the United Company and they developed Shady Acres into the Olde Farm Golf and Country Club. Mrs. Minga loved to travel and had enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as well as several opportunities to travel internationally. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and was a former member of Midway Baptist Church. While her health permitted, she was very active in many church functions and activities.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Perry Minga; sisters, Leona Litz, Ruby Montgomery, Ruth Galliher and Cordie Bowers and brothers, H.P Rice, C.M. Rice and Fleet Rice.
Survivors are her sister, Hazel Guffey of Bristol, VA and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon with Rev. Luke E. Martin and Rev. Gale Flannery officiating. Interment will follow. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 2:00 until 3:45 P.M. Sunday then go in procession to the cemetery for the committal service.
