Mr. Glen Roger Blankenship, 81, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 4, 2016. He was born August 11, 1934, in Tazewell County, Va. He was a graduate of Richlands High School and was a United States Air Force veteran. Glen owned and operated Universal Builders of Wardell, Va., for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Blankenship and Nora Nipper Blankenship; sister Vivian Rogers; and brother Harry Blankenship.
Glen is survived by his loving wife, Clara Mae Blankenship; step-daughter Lisa Cordle and step-grandson Brett Bales; sisters-in-law Lela Spencer and Carolyn Hall; nephews Alan Spencer, Mike Spencer, and Eli Spencer; nieces Kim Spencer, Cindy Spencer, and Linda; cousins: the James and Betty Blankenship family, Ruth and Arnold Short, the Jean Culbertson family, and Eleanor Gustafason; many caring friends and neighbors; a wonderful church family, the Lebanon United Methodist Church in Meadowview, Va.; Pastor Paul Griffith and his wife Cathy. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Laramie Triplett for taking such good care of Glen over the years.
The Blankenship family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral service and celebration of life will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where pallbearers will be Mike Spencer, Eli Spencer, Alfredo Lopez, Jim McCracken, Mike Gianato, John Lamie, Phil Crane, and Jonathan Whiteside. Military rites will be performed by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the U. S. Air Force.
