Gloria Ann Hodges Corcoran, 76, died peacefully on Saturday June 16, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Muriel Betterton Hodges as well as her daughter, Carolyn Koller.
Mrs. Corcoran moved to Abingdon in 1970 and worked as a legal secretary before pursuing a career in radio. She will be best remembered as the one and only "Mountain Mama" and emcee of Bluegrass Saturday Night.
Gloria was a much-loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, cousin, friend and neighbor. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Corcoran; two daughters, Jennifer (Tim) Bogle of Greenville, GA and Melissa Pearson of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Jessica and Alex Dolianitis of Boone, NC; sister, Carolyn (Bob) Hahn of Wadsworth, OH; niece, Tara (Chuck) Wegner of Del Mar, CA and their children, Natalie, Caroline and Lillian; niece, Mia O'Connor of Wadsworth, OH and her children, Corey, Alicia & Brianna; nephew Robert Hahn of Wadsworth, OH, and his children, Robert and Nina; sister-in-law Molly Corcoran of Raeford, NC; niece, Courtney Corcoran of Raeford, NC; niece Candace (John) Pierce of Raeford, NC and their children, Thomas and Addison; long-time friend and "sister" Norma Gaffga of Akron, OH; and all the Hodges family of Vaiden, MS.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 23, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor G. Scott Homesley officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. A private interment will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
