Gloria Belcher Phillips

Gloria Belcher Phillips born April 30, 1936 in Princeton, West Virginia died peacefully at her Bristol, Virginia home August 10, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Wade Hampton Belcher and the late Marguerite Scarberry Belcher.

She was honored to be counted a member of Victory Baptist Church and she loved singing in the choir.

Gloria was the eldest of nine children and likewise had much responsibility tending the needs of a large family. A coal miners daughter Gloria was well versed in assuring a little went a long way; she was an outstanding cook and a seamstress spending her life taking care of those she loved.

Gloria was the wife of the late Robert L Phillips Sr., together they raised 4 children; Robert L. Phillips Jr. (Kelly), the late Brian K. Phillips, Steven M Phillips (Sharon) and daughter Sharon M. Phillips.

Gloria was a dedicated wife and mother each day of her life and spent her time taking care of those around her. As a dedicated child of God, she ministered to others. Even as a young bride, Gloria was witnessing to her siblings with each visit back home. She always pulled the younger children together to tell them of Jesus.

Gloria is survived by her sister, Teresa Billings (Louis); her children, Robert, Steven, and Sharon; her grandchildren Robbie Phillips (Leanne), Cameron Phillips (Kayla), and Tiffany Phillips; great-grandchildren, Noah Cousins, Asher Widener, Raegan and Ryan Phillips.

Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Robert L Phillips, Sr.; son, Brian K Phillips; her brothers, Donald Belcher, David Belcher, Wade Belcher, Taylor (Greg) Belcher and Darrel Belcher; and her sisters Rita Finney and Carol Dickenson

The Phillips family extends sincere thanks to the Women’s Sunday School Victory Baptist Church for your thoughtfulness, prayers and dedication to Gloria. It is greatly appreciated.

The Phillips family is so grateful and blessed to be served by Tracy Fleenor, nurse and caregiver for Gloria for over 2 years. Tracy is uniquely blessed with her abilities as witnessed through her care of Gloria. She loved Gloria as if she was her own mother and she ministered to Gloria and was ministered by Gloria within their alliance to serve the Lord. Gloria’s desire was to stay at home, and she was blessed to be able to do so. This would not have been possible without Tracy.

The funeral service for Gloria Phillips will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Main Street Chapel - Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Austin Cook officiating. The visitation will be at funeral home from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park.
