Golda Mae Rush, 93, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a faithful and active member of Spring Creek Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, where she served as Treasurer, taught Sunday school and was involved in the Women's Circle. Golda was well known for having worked at Rex's Grocery for 30 years and always having a smile for customers. She was married for 44 years to the late William V. Rush. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Sallie Swift.
Survivors include her son William "Bill" Rush and his wife Mary of Abingdon; one granddaughter Amy Duncan and her husband Tim of Abingdon; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Will Duncan; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend and neighbor Edith Whiteaker.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 8 PM at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 on Wednesday. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 11 AM at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Don Minnick, Frank Whiteaker, W.W. "Bill" Briscoe, James Beau Briscoe, Donnie Minnick, and Richard Briscoe. Honorary pallbearers will be Vic Briscoe, John Briscoe, Jack Briscoe and Boyd Cassell.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Jeannie Chapman and many of the other aides at Grace Healthcare for the care given to Golda.
