Harold Dunaway went home to his Heavenly Father on August 19, at the age of 92. Born to Vetta Dunaway in Mississippi, he was the fifth of six children.
Harold was a natural athlete, savvy businessman, skilled woodworker, and devout Christian. In February 1953, he married his sweetheart, Masel, spending 71 wonderful years together and raising two beautiful children. Harold was a loyal member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church of Jackson, Mississippi for more than 40 years and Abingdon Baptist Church for over 25 years. He became a deacon in 1971 and could be found on the church grounds multiple days a week including every Sunday serving and singing with the choir. His compassion and empathy for others are just two of the many admirable qualities that led him to annually volunteer with the Abingdon Baptist’s mission to support Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child.
Harold is now at perfect peace, joining his mother Vetta, his brother Charles, and sisters Lexie, Mildred, and Virginia in Heaven.
He will live on in the hearts of his wife, Masel; daughter, Cheri and husband Laramie Triplett; son, Lendy Dunaway and wife Cammie; grandchildren, Zane Triplett, Alyssa and husband James Lampl, and Davis Dunaway; great-grandson, Hunter Lampl; sister, Dorothy Mcgehee; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Denton/Foil Sunday School Class.
All are welcome to celebrate his life and share in memories Thursday, August 29, 2024 during visitation from 11:00am to 12:00pm. A memorial service orchestrated by Rev. Dr. Bill Bryan with family friend and guest pastor Kyle Bomar will follow at 12:00pm at Abingdon Baptist Chruch.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in his memory to Abingdon Baptist Church.
The family of Harold Dunaway is being cared for by Farris Funeral Service & Crematory, Main Street location, 427 E. Main Street, Abingdon VA 276-623-2700.
