Harold R. "Poss" Farris, 76, passed away at his home on Monday, October 25, 2010. He was born December 3, 1933, in Smyth County, Virginia, son of the late Ralph White Farris and Mary Cumbow Farris. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 0012 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. "Poss" worked thirty years for Norfolk & Southern Railroad. He was a member of the Glade Spring Masonic Lodge # 236 and a member of Meadowview United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sue Farris Honaker and Betty Farris Zavala, and by his brother, Elmer Farris.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Rebecca Thomas "Toots" Farris; three sons: Bucky Farris and wife Toni of Chilhowie; Harold Farris Jr. and wife Cathy of Lansdowne, VA; and Mark Farris of Abingdon; brothers: Curtis Adair and wife Mary Ann of Kingsport, TN; Moe Adair and wife Sharon of Abingdon; and Joe Adair and wife Debbie of Glade Spring; sisters: Ann Farris of Glade Spring; Judy Velasco of Houston, TX; and Freida Harrington of Abingdon; seven grandchildren: Harold "Trey" Farris III, Jenna Farris, Diana Farris, Tabatha Harwood and husband Derek, Megan Farris, Chris Parks and wife Dannah, and Kayla Spencer; two great-grandchildren: Ethan Parks and Collin Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Harold "Poss" Farris will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. David Jackson and the Rev. David St. Clair officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery, with graveside Masonic Services conducted by Glade Spring Lodge # 236 and military rites performed by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
Active pallbearers will be Trey Farris, Larry Wilson, Jackson Arrington, Jeff Warren, Jessie Honaker and William Quintana. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Meadowview United Methodist Church, Members of the Glade Spring Senior Center and the Clinchburg Senior Center, Eddie and Nancy Gray, and Ned and Jennie Hayter.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. � 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
