Dr. Harry Hammond Price, Jr., 78, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 in Knoxville, TN.
He was born November 26, 1931 in Pulaski, VA and was a son of the late Harry Hammond and Anna Pratt Price. He was a graduate of Greenbrier Military Academy, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine. He began his first solo practice in Mountain City, TN before moving to Abingdon in 1966. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association and had also served a single elected term as Chairman of the School Board in Johnson County, TN. He was a member of Old Glade Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Price and a brother, Richard "Dick" Price.
Survivors are his sons, Harry Edwin Price of Emory, VA and Gary Price and wife, Sandra of Gray, TN; daughter, Diane Staley and husband, Mark of Knoxville, TN; brother, James T. (Tommy) Price and wife, Judy of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, John Ferguson of Knoxville, TN, Storm Price, Cassidy Price, Savannah Price, Sydney Starnes and Ken Starnes all of Gray and great grandchildren, Jackson and Cooper Starnes and Leah and Jonah Ferguson, and a special friend, Jane Rasnake of Glade Spring, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 4, 2010 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Timothy Bird officiating. Interment will follow in Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Frank Buchanan, Patrick Buchanan, John Ferguson, Storm Price, William Naylor, Sonny Porterfield, Bradley Robinson, and Chris Hamilton. Honorary pallbearer will be John Robinson.
The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main St. Abingdon from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. Tuesday.
