Helen J. Shortt, 81, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.

She was the daughter of Herman and Ada Woodward and was raised in Washington County. She graduated from Wallace High School and attended Miss Mary Frey's Business School. She was a charter member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church and its' predecessors. She loved her church and held many offices within the church. She was loved by all of the congregation and will be dearly missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James R. Woodward; and two sisters, Amanda Catherine Booth and Betty Ann Crenshaw.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Havard Smeltzer Shortt; a daughter, Donna Jean Shortt of Abingdon, VA.; A grandson, Stephen "Blake" Eades and his wife Amber of Damascus, VA.; and a great-granddaughter, Mallorie.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 7:00 PM at Pleasant View United Methodist Church, 18416 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210 with the Reverend Ralph Kidd, the Rev. Barbara Farmer and the Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 7:00 pm prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon, VA. Pallbearers will be Timothy Booth, Richard Odachowski, Glenn Miller, Stephen Eades, and Fred Crenshaw. Honorary pallbearers are David Booth, Sam Kite, Lovell Whittig, Herbert Clifton, Jack Clifton, Raymond Woodward, Warren Crenshaw, and Gary Crenshaw.
