Helen Mullins Sword, age 93, of Abingdon, Va., passed away at home. She was born in Buchanan County, Va. to the late Edom Mullins and Edgar Matney Mullins. Helen loved to read a good book and crochet when she could or was bored. Helen loved NASCAR, namely Dale Jr., and she loved to cook and talk on the phone. She collected tea pots.
In addition to her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Emmett Sword; son, James "Pedro" Sword; five siblings, Georgia Mullins Evans, Juanita Mullins Love, Gaynell Mullins, Victor Franklin Mullins, and Regina Mullins Jones; grandson, James Matthew Sword; great grandson, Logan Eli Sword; and special friend, Nola Skeens.
She is survived by her beloved son, Steve Sword, of the home; grandson, Charles Sword and wife, Angie, of Cedar Bluff, Va.; two great granddaughters, Alex and Anna Sword of Jewell Ridge, Va.; sister-in-law, Lois Ball and husband, Doug, of Brookeville, Ohio; special niece, Betty Hicks of Grundy, Va.; and several additional nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, 32350 Riverside Dr., Big Rock, Va. 24603. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
