Abingdon, VA – Helen Virginia Nixon Smith, age 95, passed on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at her home. Helen attended Coeburn High School where she lived for many years before moving to Abingdon in 1965. She was a beautician for nearly 40 years and of the Baptist Faith. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Garfiled Jordan and Cora Johnston Jordan; first husband, James W. Nixon; second husband, Waymeth Smith; and son, Donald W. Nixon. She was the last to pass of eight siblings.
Helen is survived by her son, James A. Nixon and wife Bobbie G. of Abingdon, VA; daughter-in-law, Cathe Lowe Nixon of Newnan, GA; five grandchildren, Jordan Nixon, April Hayes, Hollie O’ Connor, Crystal Striker, and Jamie Davis; ten grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 12:00 – 12:45 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2022, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Temple Hill Memorial Park with Chaplain Josh Vestal and Gary Robbins officiating.
