Helen Starnes Bartee, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member and past Matron of Counts Chapter 180 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
She was born to the late John and Eva Starnes. She is also preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Bartee; brothers, Kenneth Starnes and Russell Starnes; and sister, Marie Steele.
She is survived by her sons, David Bartee and wife Catherine; John Bartee and wife Luella; sisters, Ruth Slate and husband Lawrence, and Eula Smith; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and sister-in-laws, Fern Bartee, Betty Starnes and Reba Starnes.
Visitation with the family will be held at Helen's home at 23432 Walden Rd. Abingdon, VA 24210 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 25, 2012. A Celebration of Mrs. Bartee's Life will be held at Pleasant View United Methodist Church at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 26, 2012 with Dr. Ralph Kidd officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mrs. Bartee's honor to Pleasant View United Methodist Church, 18416 Lee Hwy Abingdon, VA, 24210, or the Coomes Center Senior Fund, P.O. Box 2495 Abingdon, VA 24212.
