Herbert E. “Herb” Dye, age 91, of Bristol, Va., died peacefully on August 20, 2020, at NHC Healthcare.
Herbert was born on April 14, 1929, in Swords Creek, Russell County, Va., to his loving parents, Roy E. and Ida Bell Dye. The family relocated to the Abingdon/Bristol area. Herb graduated from Bethel High School and studied at Emory and Henry College.
Herb achieved route, plant, and regional sales manager positions at Foremost, and later Farmbest Dairies, where he had many devoted friends and employees. Upon retirement, he owned Bi-Rite Market and was later a valued staff member at the Abingdon Senior Community Center where he ran the Meals-on-Wheels and supported other senior programs to give back to the community.
He was a lifelong member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
Herbert is survived by his daughter, Lovena Swygert; sons, Eugene Dye and wife, Kaye; Keith Dye; Tim Dye and wife, Amy; along with a brother, Lawrence Dye. He was also blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren, displaying their pictures proudly.
