Glade Spring, VA – Herman McCoy, age 91, passed on September 5, 2014. Mr. McCoy was born in West Virginia to the late Rome McCoy and Margaret Blankenship. He was raised and spent most of his life in Hurley, VA before moving to Glade Spring 25 years ago. Herman was a coal miner, loved to spend time in his garden, play the guitar, and work. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Fronia Lockheart, and four brothers. He is survived by three sons, Earl (Rita) McCoy of Bristol, VA, Howard (Mary Ann) McCoy of Illinois, and Tony McCoy of Meadowview, VA; daughter, Debbie Ball and special friend Rodolfo Nieves of North Wilkesboro, NC; sister, Edna Hurley of Hurley, VA; five grandchildren, Katherine Ball, Tammy Foore, Earl McCoy, Jr., Corinna Curtis, and Shane McCoy; 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Doug Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Rose Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be held 12-1 p.m. just prior to the service.
