Hester Smith, age 94, passed on Tuesday, March 04, 2014, at Broadmore Assisted Living in Bristol, TN. Hester was born November 13, 1919 in Grundy, VA to the late William Jacob and Mary Rife Smith. Hester was raised in Buchanan County, VA, lived many years in Matewan, WV, and moved to Bristol, VA in 1972. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and the Ladies Willing Worker Class.
In addition to her parents, Hester is preceded in death by her husband, Willis "Riddle" Smith; daughter, Linda Smith Chesto; brothers, Reece and David Smith; and sisters, Sarah Jane Smith, Vernie S. Matney, Laura S. Keene, Edna S. Davis, Bessie S. Keene, Helen S. Ward, and Ocie S. Trent.
She is survived by her son, Larry Smith and wife Judy of Milton, WV; granddaughters, Moira, Dorney, and Shawna; great-grandchildren, Chole, Max, Asher, and Olivia; special caregivers, Lola Snow, Marilyn Willis, and Linda Gross; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Ethan Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with members of the Victory Baptist Church Men's Bible Class serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the women of the Ladies Willing Worker Class.
Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the church.
