Hobart M. McCall, 91, passed away Friday, November 18, 2011, at Valley Healthcare in Chilhowie, VA. Born December 4, 1919, he was a native of Washington County, Virginia and was a son of the late Thomas E. and Florence Andrews McCall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tommy, and a wife, Myrtle Durham McCall.
He was an army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre campaign and was retired from Roberts Tire and Recapping. He was a member of Carvosso United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Dixon McCall; two sons: Jim McCall and Wayne McCall and his wife Priscilla; and one grandson, Stuart McCall, all of Abingdon. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service for Hobart McCall will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Eggers and Pastor Leonard Smith. Burial will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park with military graveside rites offered by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Pallbearers will be Johnny Durham, Joe Campbell, Michael Warren, Charlie Warren, Wayne Campbell, Ricky Buckles, Bobby Duff and Sonny Hagy. Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Johnson, L.E. Litton, Bill Boyd, James Tweed, Bill Smith, and Jimmy Dixon.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the time of service. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Valley Healthcare for all their care and kindness.
