Abingdon, VA Miss Hope Humphrey, age 88, a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday June 3, 2016 at Abingdon Health Rehab Center. She was born August 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Garland G. and Marguerite Snapp Humphrey. Hope was a loving member of the Green Spring Community, loved to cook, and found joy in sharing with others, particularly her family and friends. She was a dedicated member of the Green Spring Presbyterian Church and a true soldier for the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Hunter and Charles Humphrey, and one sister, Frances H. Webb.
She is survived by her sister, Irene H. Wallace of Abingdon, Va.; nieces, Marilyn K. Wallace of Ill., Patricia W. Hancock and husband Robert of Kodak, Tenn., Linda Duty and husband Walter of Bristol, Va., Anita Thayer and husband Bobby of Abingdon, Va.; nephews, David Wallace and wife Kathy of Ill., Doug Wallace and wife Patty of Ga., and George G. Humphrey and wife Suwanna of Ark; and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jon Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 22007 Green Spring Church Road, Abingdon, VA 24211, in Ms. Humphreys name.
