Howard Junior Totten, age 85, of Bristol, Va. went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 23, 2017, at Lakebridge Health Care. He was born December 7, 1931, in Saltville, Va. the second of 14 children born to the late Arthur Graham Totten and Laura Anderson Totten. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Korea, Germany, and Japan. After 12 years of service, Howard was medically discharged from the Army but continued to serve his community through the DAV Chapter 40 in Bristol for 25 years. He worked for Seaboard Railroad in Florida and later in Richmond while his health prevailed.
In addition to his parents, Howard was also preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Stowers Totten; two brothers, Ernest David Totten, Sr. and Joseph Sampson Totten; sister-in-law, Retta Totten; and four stillborn siblings.
He is survived by seven siblings, Sylvester Wesley Totten and wife Margaret of Marion, Va.; William James Totten of Chilhowie, Va.; Stella Mae Brown and husband Harold of Richmond, Va.; Stanley Allen Totten of Saltville, Va.; Ralph Edward Totten and wife Terecia of Saltville, Va.; Brenda Blakey of Saltville, Va.; and Charles Graham Totten of Chilhowie, Va.; step-grandson, Daniel Brown of Richmond, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A cryptside service will be held at in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017, with Chaplain Doran Osborne of the DAV Chapter 40 officiating. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the cryptside service at the Forest Hills Chapel, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. 24210.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Lakebridge Health Care, Chaplain Doran Osborne, and the DAV Chapter 40.
