Howard Zeb Shortt, aged 99, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024. He was born in Hemphill, West Virginia, on June 8, 1924, to Dock Gilmer Shortt and Cora Jane Shortt.
Howard was devoted to his country, serving in the US Army during World War II. He took part in battles in North Africa, Italy, and France, receiving two Purple Hearts for his bravery and sacrifice in aiding the fight to preserve and restore the freedom of others around the world. He was a committed member of the York Masonic Lodge in Maple Grove, Virginia, and took pleasure in fishing and spending time with his family.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents; wife Odell B. Shortt; son, Sammy Shortt; two brothers, George Shortt and Gilmer Shortt; and two infant sisters.
His surviving family members include his daughter Linda Robinson (James R.), two sons, Nelson Shortt (Judy) and Louis Shortt (Gina); seven grandchildren, James R. Robinson, Jr., Myra Rose, Chamene Tierney-Robinson, Amy Tester, Emmeline Craig, Louis Cody Shortt, and Tyler Shortt; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the Forest Hill Memory Gardens, officiated by Pastor Les Ketron.
