Mr. Hugh Lee Flannagan, 84, passed away Sunday July 12, 2009 in the Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, VA.
Hugh lived in Salem, Virginia from 1952 until 2007 and had resided in Abingdon since 2007.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velvaleen B. Flannagan who passed away in August, 2006.
He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Bristol and served in the U. S. Army during World War II and also served with the Corp of Engineers. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include three sons, Frederick Hugh Flannagan, Boaz, Alabama, Franklin Lee Flannagan, Powhatan, VA, Hugh Lee Flannagan, Jr., Salem, VA, three step-children, Derick Hines and Terry Hines, Salem, VA, Alex Hines, Lynchburg, VA, three brothers, Dennis Yokely Flannagan, Salem, VA, Hobert Ray Flannagan, Martinsville, VA, Robert "Bud" Flannagan, Indiana, three sisters, Elizabeth Daniels, Salem, VA, Margaret Flannagan, Ridgeway, VA, Mable Harris, Collinsville, VA, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great grandson.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Charles C. Baker officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors to be conducted by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
