Hunter "Trey" Thayer was born August 22, 1993 in Abingdon, VA to Beverly Lynn King Thayer of Asheville and Hunter "Chip" Thayer. Trey was embraced by the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the age of 19. Trey was preceded in death by his father, Chip Thayer; and grandfathers, Hunter Thayer; and "Buster" King.

Trey is survived by his mother; sister, Madison "Gracie" Thayer; grandmothers, Demple King Milton and Sue Taylor Thayer; uncle, Duane King and wife, Bernice; aunts, Melinda Thayer Leland and husband, David, and Jackie Thayer Craft and husband, Chad; and so many loving cousins.

Trey attended Abingdon High School prior to moving to Asheville in 2009. He graduated from Asheville High School in 2011 where he lettered in soccer. An avid snowboarder, Trey loved playing and watching any sport. Trey planned to attend college to pursue his love of the outdoors as a park ranger.

Trey was a passionate, adventurous young man who lived life full throttle and without fear. His instant beaming smile and vibrant personality were always filled with joy, making an unforgettable impression on everyone. He became the man of the house and his sister's protector, and he will be greatly missed by all family and friends.

A service will be held Friday, May 31, 2013 at 5 PM at Biltmore Baptist Church in Arden, NC. Family will receive visitors at 4 PM. In lieu in flowers, donations may be made to the Trey Thayer Memorial Fund with the Highlands Soccer Club, PO Box 1991, Abingdon, Virginia 24212. A second memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Highlands Fellowship Church in Abingdon, and the family will receive friends at the church beginning at noon. Private burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, where Trey will be laid to rest in the arms of his father, Hunter "Chip" Thayer.
