Abingdon, Va. – Ilda Christine Lampkins Shortt, 86, passed on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, in Abingdon Health & Rehab Center. Ilda was born in St. Paul, Va. to the late Henry and Cleo Suit Lampkins. She was a 1950 Graduate of St. Paul High School. As a young adult she and her husband, Jack, lived in Williamsburg, Va. for many years and later moved to Abingdon in the late 1980’s. Ilda and Jack operated a semi- truck together for many years and were able to see much of the country together.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Burcher, and sister-in-law, Betty Joseph. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jack Shortt; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Owens, Phyllis Joyner, and Brenda (James) Sorah; brother-in-law, Ray (Mary) Shortt; special cousin, Ester Hale; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, in Temple Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Barry Marshall officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to convene at the cemetery before 2:00 p.m.
