Ina Jennings Fields Humphrey

Ina Mae Jennings Fields Humphrey, 94, went to be with the Lord peacefully on August 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Ina was born on August 15, 1929, in Hillsville, VA to Hettie and Eden Jennings. The family relocated to Jolo, WV, where Ina grew up and helped care for her younger siblings. She married Dewey Fields in 1947, at the age of 18 and started her own family.

Despite a very humble beginning and becoming a widow at the age of 32, Ina was able to earn a Master’s Degree that led to a lengthy career in Education. She remarried in 1982, to Boyd Humphrey and relocated to Beckley, WV, where she became very active in the First Baptist Church and spent her retirement years overseeing the Helping Hands Community Resource Center. In 2017, Ina moved to Abingdon, VA, where she spent the remainder of her years. She will forever be remembered for her loving, generous spirit and her unyielding faith. Ina made an everlasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Ina was predeceased by her parents, Hettie and Elden Jennings, husbands Dewey Fields and Boyd Humphrey, brothers Earl, Johnny, Oren, and Jack Jennings, sister Hazel Guadagnoli, and great-granddaughter Catherine LeMasters.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Peterson, son Charles Fields (Irene), five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four siblings, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the very special people who cared for her during her final weeks.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Grandview Memory Gardens, 38659 Gov. George C. Peery Hwy, Bluefield, VA. Those attending the graveside service are asked to be at the cemetery by 12:45 pm.
