Irene Hayter Williams, 96, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Richfield Nursing Home in Salem. She was a native of Meadowview, VA and lived most of her life in that community. Her husband, Thomas Martin Williams, and an infant son preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Jean Herndon, and a grandson, Marty Herndon, of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Betsy Clark and her husband, David, and three great-grandchildren, Mary Lee, Katy, and Michael, all of Luray, VA.
The family expresses sincere gratitude to the staff of The Oaks at Richfield and to others for their concerns and care. Irene will be remembered for her fine sewing skills and the heirloom quilts which will be cherished for generations, as well as her contributions to family, church, and community.
A reception for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 12 from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at Meadowview Methodist Church. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Wayne Cummings. Burial will take place at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon.
