Irene Johnson Fleming, 91, died March 25, 2012. She was born the only child to the late John Emory and Mary Iona Kiser Johnson. Mrs. Fleming grew up in Wilder and Cleveland, VA before moving to Clinchco, VA where she graduated from Clinchco High School in 1938. Irene later married Joseph Lyman Fleming and made her home in Clinchco, VA.
Mrs. Fleming was a post office clerk and postmaster and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1973. In 1982 she moved to Abingdon, VA where she lived the remaining years of her life and attended Abingdon Bible Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lyman Fleming; infant children, Mickey, Pat and Susan, and granddaughter, Shawna Fleming Shannon.
Survivors include her son, Johnny Fleming of Richmond, VA; granddaughter, Shannon Fleming Lubin of Richmond, VA; three great-grandsons, Joseph Shannon of Pittsburgh, PA, Jack Shannon of Pittsburgh, PA and Nick Lubin of Richmond, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Cremation & Funeral Center. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 A.M. Tuesday prior to the service.
