Irene Musick

Irene Musick, a beloved member of her community and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, at Abingdon Health & Rehab at the age of 101. Irene was born on December 16, 1923, in Russell County, Virginia to the late Beverly B. Kiser and Alice Musick Kiser. Irene's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her work, and her community.

Throughout her career, Irene made a significant impact as the owner and manager of “Musick's Grocery,” a general store located in Finney, Virginia, that served as a local gathering place for many. Her warm spirit and generous heart ensured that everyone who entered her store felt welcomed and cared for. Additionally, she devoted several years to cooking at Hillcrest, a nursing home near her residence, where she continued to nurture others through her culinary skills. She was known far and wide for her homemade rolls.

Irene was known for her remarkable giving nature. As a caregiver to her husband’s parents, as well as his two brothers and sister, she exemplified what it means to support and uplift those in need. Those who were fortunate enough to know her remember her delightful personality and her love for simple joys, including her fondness for green beans. Irene often shared her wisdom on living a long and healthy life, claiming that the secret lay in enjoying oatmeal for breakfast and choosing not to have children.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Musick, and eleven siblings: Lonnie Kiser, Rausie Musick, Ollie Wilson, Vinnie Musick, Fonnie Duty, Karmie Farmer, Magaleon Musick, Dewey Kiser, Elmer Kiser, Novella Thompson, and Elladean Keith.

She leaves behind her loving family, including her sisters Shirley Sykes and Bonnie Breeding, and several nieces and nephews who will continue to cherish her memory and honor the legacy of love she created during her lifetime.

As we remember Irene Musick, we honor her contributions to both her family and community. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Main Street location of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will follow at 12 pm with Dr. Don Paxton officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Memorial Cemetery, 675 N.E. Main Street, Lebanon, VA 24266, at 1:45 pm. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
