Jack Calvin Harris, age 88 and formerly of Bristol, TN died on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at MedStar Washington Center Hospital after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Artie Calvin Harris and Agnes Etta Baker Harris; and his beloved sister, Eleanor Harris Robins.
After graduating from Glade Spring High School, Jack served in the United States Navy as a Gunner's Mate during WWII. He had a long career as a printer, starting with King Printing Company, Bristol Herald Courier, followed by over 35 years of service with the Government Printing Office, including a special assignment at the Senate Legislative Counsel.
He was a dedicated member of the Jehovah's Witnesses with the Washington, DC congregation for many years.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Celestine Easton Harris of Washington, DC; son, James Randolph (Margaret) Harris of Abingdon, VA; daughter, Cynthia Joanne Harris Johnson of Bristol, TN; grandson, Jason Lee Harris of Abingdon, VA; granddaughter, Lauren Leigh Harris of Abingdon, VA; and two nieces, Lisa Robins and Linda (Scott) Harriger of Abingdon, VA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2013, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses, 29276 Lee Highway, Meadowview, VA, with Minister Scott Harriger officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where the Men of the Jehovah's Witnesses and grandson, Jason Lee Harris, will serve as pallbearers.
