Jack Hugh Able

Jack Hugh Able, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born January 4, 1935, to the late William Redwin Able and Cora Dona Nichels Able. Jack was a retiree of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War in the 1st Infantry Division. He was of the protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, Jack was also precdeded in death by his wife of 46 years, Martha Ann Widener Able. He is also preceded in death by five brothers, Ed Able, James Able, Joe Able, Harry Lee Able, and George Able, and one sister, Frances Wagner.

He is survived by three daughters: Debra Kay Hargrove and husband Jerry of Chillhowie, Va.; Diane Link of Bristol, Tenn.; and Mary Jane Arnold of Abingdon, Va.; four sons: Jackie Able of Bristol, Tenn.; George Able and wife Barbara of Abingdon, Va.; and twins, John Able and James Able both of Abingdon, Va.; three sisters: Eula Cashion and Irene Wood both of Stoney Point, N.C.; and Beatrice Kestner of Lynchburg, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson and special buddy, Jackie Hargrove.

A graveside service will be held at 1 P.M. Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Kirby Miller officiating. Pallbearers will be Jackie Hargrove, Mark Wilkinson, Adam Hargrove, Brandon Able, Travis Willson, and Logan Price. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. All those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 P.M.
