James Allen Duncan, age 73, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012.
He was born to the late L.W. Duncan and Mary Venable Duncan. He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Bettye Freeman Duncan.
He is survived by two daughters, Gwyn Duncan and friend Patrick O'Neill of Kingsport, TN and Jane Duncan Gilbert and husband Kenneth of Meadowview, VA; one son, Jeff A. Duncan of Johnson City, TN; daughter-in-law, Gail Elan Duncan of Ormond Beach , FL; two sisters, Charlotte Ehlshlager and husband Karl of Roanoke, VA and Joyce Meador and husband Mike of Rocky Mount, VA; seven grandchildren, Andy, Brennan, Craig, Justin, Katelyn, Shawn, and Summer; one great grandson, Scotty; and numerous friends and neighbors.
Allen is remembered for his love of his family and his helpful and generous nature. He was a great gardener and loved sharing what he grew.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Reverend Kim Goddard officiating. Interment will follow at Holston Conference Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 p.m. -2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Gilbert, Justin Gilbert, Craig Conrey, Bob Henegar, Ron Richardson, and Johnny Wayne Duncan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith in Action, 798 Hillman Hwy., Abingdon, VA 24210; Holly Help Memorial Spay Fund, P.O. Box 1264, Bristol, VA 24203; or Riverplace, P.O. Box 774, Abingdon, VA 24212.
